Introduction

For fitness lovers, we’d say the most important component of success is the dedication to improve yourself. Goals may change and there may be ups and downs, but as long as you are dedicated to improving your performance, you’ll surely make progress.

Let’s read about one of our clients, who pushed his stamina to the next level and broke his previous marathon record through our guided programs. Sanjay is now the fittest he has ever been, let’s see how he achieved his goals.

About Sanjay

While working at an MNC, Sanjay was very busy in his professional life. Caught up in work and other commitments, he didn’t get the time to take care of his health and at his heaviest, Sanjay weighed around 95 kgs. That’s when he decided to step up and take charge of his health.

Sanjay had a passion and interest for marathon running and decided to pursue it more seriously. Our primary goal with Sanjay was to help him reach a healthy weight, get him started on his marathon running journey and improve his energy levels and overall stamina.

Thanks to Sanjay’s remarkable determination towards his goals, we were able to make steady progress and in just around 8 months, Sanjay lost over 30 kgs. His health improved tremendously, he started running regularly and taking part in marathons, and now it is an important part of his life. Let’s take a closer look at Sanjay’s journey.

Nutrition

Our first goal was to help Sanjay lose weight. We approached this through an extended calorie deficit diet. After an assessment of his lifestyle and usual eating habits, we made a personalised nutrition plan to make the transition into a balanced diet as smooth and effortless as possible.

As Sanjay also wished to pursue marathon running, we needed to make sure Sanjay had plenty of energy for the extensive cardio he performed. At the same time, it was important to balance his macros to maintain a steady weight loss. The best way to achieve this is of course by including a great amount of protein from both supplements and direct sources. This made sure Sanjay remained satiated and had adequate energy for his workouts. Apart from that, we had separate dietary protocols in place before his marathons to aid performance and improve energy levels.

Diligently following his nutrition plan gave Sanjay some amazing results and shows exactly how important a role nutrition plays in a person’s overall fitness levels.

Specialized Carb Diet

There’s a lot of misinformation out there about including carbs in your diet. If you know the science behind nutrition though, you’ll know that carbs are not at all bad for you. In fact, they can be quite useful, especially when it comes to athletes.

The day before marathons, for example, the athletes are given plenty of simple carbohydrates in their diet. Simple carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes, jams, marmalades, ice cream, energy drinks, and Gatorade are very easy to digest. This makes them a great source of energy, which is of course very important for strenuous physical activities like marathons.

During the marathon itself, athletes carry electrolyte drinks such as Gatorade and carb gels for quick energy boosts during the runs. Easy to carry and quick to consume, these items are a great help and help you perform better without getting exhausted.

We helped Sanjay with his carb diets and marathon preps and the results speak for themselves. With amazing endurance, great run timings, and plenty of medals, Sanjay is a total pro now and we couldn’t be prouder of him.

Fitness Workouts

Sanjay’s workout plans consisted of both cardio and weight training. As our goal was to achieve sustainable weight loss, consistency was a huge part of our plan. The entire Optimum Wellness team made sure to have regular follow-ups to review Sanjay’s progress and keep him motivated.

We also had separate running protocols to prepare him for the upcoming marathons and closely monitored his timings and progress to make sure we could implement any necessary changes if required.

Client Testimonial

Let’s see what Sanjay had to say about his experience with Optimum Wellness-

“I approached Optimum Wellness at a point in my life where I was quite unhappy with my weight and overall health in general. Due to my hectic work schedule, I never really got to pay my health its due importance.

However, I was determined to change things and make progress. I developed a passion for marathon running, for which I have to give credit to Neera Katwal. She is a phenomenal coach and is a true inspiration to me. She encouraged me through the toughest phases and kept me motivated. I’m happy to say that now I regularly run marathons and thoroughly enjoy them.

As I was quite overweight, I needed to get to a healthy weight before I could start training properly for marathons. Thanks to the amazing plans created by Alan and Vinit at Optimum Wellness, I am happy to say that I have reached my goals. Not only am I physically more active and able to achieve the body-specific goals that I set out to achieve, training with Optimum Wellness motivated me to become more disciplined in my lifestyle. I now know what and how to do to live a healthier lifestyle than I did before I began!

The plans themselves were surprisingly easy to follow and I never really felt like I was depriving myself of good food. On the other hand, they helped me be more mindful of what I was eating and my eating habits in general. The level of personal attention I have gotten from Optimum Wellness is just phenomenal. Highly recommend the team to anyone looking to improve their health.”
