Introduction

Deepali Malhotra’s story shows how having a positive attitude, a love for keeping yourself fit and healthy, and a dedication to consistency can totally transform your life. Her story can be an inspiration to those who may have lost track of their fitness journey and want to bounce back.

From a teenager binging on junk food to someone in love with all things fitness, let’s get into more details about Deepali’s story.

About Deepali

Deepali was a competitive swimmer in her childhood and teens. Owing to the demanding nature of her sport, Deepali had gotten regular exercise and maintained an overall healthy weight throughout her life. In her teens, she weighed around 65 kg at 5’3, which was slightly overweight but she remained fit and active.

Things took a turn for the worse around the time of her last year of high school in 2019. Owing to the upcoming board examinations, her entire schedule changed.

She was waking up early in the morning around 4 AM and spent her whole day studying and binge eating while getting very little physical activity.

Challenges

Following the same schedule for 4-5 months, she gained quite some weight, her highest weight being around 78 kgs. This is also when the pandemic hit, which meant she could not swim as per her usual routine and her last exam also got canceled.

Deepali found herself in a difficult situation. For around a month, she was perplexed about what to do regarding her fitness. Initially, she tried running on her terrace to get some exercise, but nothing seemed to help her lose weight and her weight remained stable at around 75-78kgs.

As an otherwise active person, it was very becoming difficult for Deepali to get stuck in this phase. To make peace with this situation and she was determined to take charge of her health again.

Building Positive Habits

Around April 2020, Deepali decided to transform her way of life. She started researching online about exercise and started working out every day, sometimes even pushing herself to work out up to three times a day.

As a competitive swimmer, exercise was not something that Deepali found daunting. She loved working out and looked forward to it every day. Her struggle was with nutrition. After an initial struggle, while she tried to adopt healthy eating habits, Deepali began properly researching nutrition and controlled her diet.

After some experimentation and research, she began to understand how food affects her body and controlled her binge eating triggers. She made a nutrition plan for herself, noted down everything she ate, and worked out almost every single day.

After months of being derailed from her fitness journey, Deepali finally got in tune with her body. These healthy habits were showing results and soon she started losing weight at a rate of around ½ kg per week. The promising progress she made strengthened her determination.

Final Push

Living a fit and active life can do wonders for your mental and physical health. Deepali was finally feeling like herself again and in August her weight had reached around 60 kgs.

Satisfied with her weight loss rate, Deepali set a final fitness goal: hitting 55 kgs before her birthday on 22nd September. On September 1, Deepali’s weight was at 59 kgs. She pushed herself harder, gave up junk food, and started making smarter choices regarding food in general. At the same time, she was working out up to 2-3 times a day.

For the month of September, she began to lose weight at 1 kg per week. Finally, on her birthday her weight was 55 kgs. All her hard work had finally paid off.

Current Routine

Having achieved a healthy weight, Deepali is now focusing more on her strength and building muscle. She has started swimming again, which requires greater levels of energy and endurance.

Her current workout routine consists of both strength training and cardio such as swimming and cycling. She continues to make healthy choices when it comes to food and indulges in one or two cheat meals a week.

Deepali has also made it a point to educate the people in her life to live healthier lives and help them with their nutrition and fitness levels.

Deepali’s determination, discipline, and amazing hard work are truly inspiring. She shows how fitness is not restricting, it is liberating. It can help you become the best version of yourself and unlock your higher potential.
